Gas is cheap, everyone loves SUVs, and the Wrangler has no true competitor. I think all the cards are falling into place for us to see a revised Hummer HX concept next year to preview an upcoming Wrangler-fighter under the GMC brand.
Why do I think this is coming so soon? Well GM must have something conceptual to show next year. Heck, what will Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac have that we already haven’t had revealed to us after next summer? It seems like after all the new sedans and Camaro come out, everything else (SUVs and trucks) will only have facelifts and refreshes coming up.
What better time than now for a five year run of a GMC Hummer? No Nissan X-Terra or Toyota FJ Cruiser. Plus they could get it done around the same time the next Wrangler debuts and either be better or second! Either way it’s a win and will always be relevant.
One other thought:
I also think that GM is going to pull a Ford GT and come out of nowhere at the upcoming NAIAS with the concept mid-engined corvette. GM always seems to do the same thing a year after Ford when it comes to models that thrive on the rivalry (plus Corvette taking this past Le Mons). If the GT does as well as hoped, they would have the mythical mid-engined vette in everyone’s minds.

The only thing i’d have to say is why GMC? GMC is the premium brand right? so why have the offroader be a GMC. I think it would sell better wearing a bow tie, then again they could always do both, you know like they always do.
Also isn’t there rumor of a new Bronco? If so that could also be a potential Wrangler competitor.

Chevy doesnt need the an off roader since Colorado and Silverado variants will keep up with Toyota, Nissan, Ford, and Ram offerings. Jeep is actually seen as an entry premium brand like Chrysler. I think GMC needs an “adventure” based model and it would allow them a wider price range and variations. Lastly, Hummer was seen as a premium brand, like an escalade for the mountains even though the interiors and build were lacking anything I would describe as premium.

Would have definitely been nice before 2009. But now is a great time for high margins on subpar quality and tons of potential that will never be explored further than the dirt road to your uncles cabin.

I suppose they can use a shorter version of the Colorado and make a new blazer/jimmy. A 2 door would be cool too.

I could see Gm showing a realistic concept after the new Wrangler comes out.

Of course there are wrangler competitors. 15+ year old Defenders and G-wagens.

What team runs a corvette in Le Mons......thought that might be against the rules and spirit of that goofy, fun-looking series.

Ok but it’s twice the price of a wrangler. Unless you get a 15 year old one. So not really the same class/segment.
